Cargo Management Software for UK, US and Canada to Nigeria Shippers

Cargo management software for a UK, US or Canada firm shipping to Nigeria should handle quotes and bookings by kilo, box or barrel, barcode intake with photos, container and air manifests, WhatsApp or SMS tracking and proof of delivery in Nigeria. Musskart builds it from ₦5M–₦8M for booking and tracking up to ₦15M–₦20M+ for multi-branch platforms.

Your customers already search by town. Type “cargo to Nigeria from” into Google in the UK and it suggests London, Manchester, Birmingham, Woolwich and Coventry; in the US, “ship to Nigeria from” suggests Houston, Atlanta and Dallas. The firms that keep those customers are the ones that answer “where is my barrel?” before it is asked.

Musskart Technology Limited is a Nigerian software company with its head office in Asaba and an office in Abuja. We build the system that runs your bookings, depot, manifests and Nigeria-side handover. We are not a cargo carrier, a customs agent or a law firm.

Do You Need Custom Cargo Software Yet?

Maybe not. If you run one depot and fill a container a month, a spreadsheet, a barcode label printer and the WhatsApp Business app will carry you. Spend the money on a reliable clearing partner first.

Custom software starts paying when several of these are true:

  • Bookings come from more than one depot, agent or van driver, and nobody has the full picture.
  • You run air and sea, so prices, cut-off dates and transit times differ by box.
  • Staff spend hours a day answering “has my box left?” on WhatsApp.
  • Boxes go missing between the depot and the container, and you cannot prove what was handed over.
  • Your Nigerian clearing agent and hub re-type your manifest from a spreadsheet.

Generic freight-forwarding software is mostly designed for commercial freight: master and house bills, corporate shippers, customs entries. It rarely fits a barrel of personal effects booked by a nurse in Woolwich for her mother in Owerri, with a collection fee abroad and a doorstep delivery fee in Nigeria.

What the Platform Does, From Booking to Doorstep

Online quotes and booking

Customers price a shipment by kilo, weight band, box size or barrel, choose air or sea, and book online. Rate tables, surcharges and sailing or flight cut-offs are set by you, not hard-coded.

Drop-off and collection scheduling

Drop-off slots per depot and collection runs by postcode or ZIP zone, with collection fees, driver run sheets and reminders the day before.

Warehouse intake with labels and photos

Each box is weighed, photographed, given a barcode label and tied to a signed contents declaration. A prohibited-items checklist based on the Nigeria Customs list is ticked at the counter.

Consolidation and manifests

Boxes are scanned into a container or air manifest with container, seal, vessel or flight numbers. The same manifest goes to your forwarder, your Nigerian clearing agent and your hub, so nobody re-types it.

Tracking with WhatsApp and SMS

Milestones (received, loaded, departed, arrived, cleared, out for delivery, delivered) trigger messages to sender and recipient, plus a tracking page that needs no login.

Nigeria-side clearing and last-mile handover

Your clearing agent marks consignments cleared; the hub receives by scan; riders or delivery partners capture a photo, signature or one-time code at the door, or an ID check for hub pickup.

Payments through your own processor

Deposits, balances, part-payments and receipts go through the payment processor or merchant account you already use; we integrate it. Naira delivery fees in Nigeria can be collected through a Nigerian gateway.

Branches, agents and reports

Separate branches and agents (London, Manchester, Houston and so on) with their own users and commission. Reports show weight and revenue per container, unpaid balances, claims and delivery times.

On WhatsApp: the WhatsApp Business Platform charges per delivered message, and rates vary by market and message category. Package delivery updates fall in Meta's “utility” category. Message, SMS and processor fees are billed to you by those providers.

Cargo Management Software Cost

Typical ranges for diaspora cargo firms. Prices are in naira, and a fixed quote follows a free scoping call, including for clients abroad.

UK GDPR, Nigeria's NDPA and Customs Rules: What the System Must Support

A cargo firm holds a lot of personal data: names, addresses and phone numbers of senders abroad and recipients in Nigeria, ID copies and photos of what is in each box. Two data protection laws usually apply at once.

  • UK GDPR. The ICO says organisations, including sole traders, that use personal information must pay a data protection fee unless exempt. If you send or make customer data accessible to a separate company outside the UK (your Nigerian agent, or a Nigerian software team that supports your system), that is a “restricted transfer”. Nigeria is not on the ICO's list of UK adequacy countries, so you need an appropriate safeguard such as the IDTA or the UK Addendum plus a transfer risk assessment, or a narrow exception.
  • Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Section 2 applies the Act where a controller or processor operates in Nigeria, where processing happens in Nigeria, or where a controller or processor based abroad processes personal data of a data subject in Nigeria. Your recipients and your Nigeria hub are covered.
  • US exports. Under 15 CFR 30.37, Electronic Export Information is generally not required when the value per Schedule B commodity line to one consignee is $2,500 or less, but licence-controlled shipments and used vehicles must always be filed. The system can flag lines over $2,500 for your forwarder.
  • Nigerian Customs. The revised import prohibition list includes items senders often pack: soaps and detergents in retail packs, paracetamol and multivitamins, tomato paste, sweetened drinks and frozen poultry. Customs also says personal effects admitted as baggage exclude goods intended for sale.

What we build: role-based access, collection of only the fields you need, retention and deletion rules, audit logs, data export on request, and a hosting region you choose. Your lawyer drafts the transfer agreements and privacy notices; we build the controls they describe. The full prohibited list and Nigeria-side licences are in our shipping business guide.

Working With a Nigerian Team From London or New York

Nigeria uses West Africa Time, UTC+1 all year, with no daylight saving. UK clocks go forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October, so:

  • London: same clock as Nigeria during British Summer Time (29 March to 25 October 2026). From 25 October 2026 to 28 March 2027, Nigeria is one hour ahead.
  • US East Coast: Eastern Time is UTC−5, moving to UTC−4 from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. Nigeria is five hours ahead in the US summer and six in winter, so a 9am call in New York is 2pm or 3pm in Nigeria.

We work with clients abroad through a demo each sprint, a weekly written report and a shared task board, plus WhatsApp and email in between. We have no office outside Nigeria and won't pretend otherwise. You own the source code and the data.

How We Build Your Cargo Platform

1. Free scoping call

We map your corridor, depots, agents, air and sea volumes, and how a box moves today.

2. Written scope and fixed quote

A feature list, milestones and a fixed price in naira, so you know the cost before any build starts.

3. Clickable prototype

Booking, intake and tracking screens you can test with staff and a few loyal customers.

4. Build in sprints

A working demo each sprint and a weekly report. Your Nigerian clearing agent and hub test their screens early.

5. Pilot one depot and one consolidation

Run a real container or air shipment end to end, fix what staff trip over, then roll out branches.

6. Go-live and support

Training for depot staff, drivers and the Nigeria hub, then a care plan for fixes and updates.

Why a Nigerian Software Team Fits This Corridor

Half of your system runs in Nigeria: the clearing handover, hub scanning, riders, SMS to Nigerian numbers and naira delivery fees. We build and test those parts where your recipients are.

Relevant work: a multi-vendor marketplace with Paystack and Flutterwave and a vehicle lending platform with KYC, a ledger and reconciliation. For Nigerian clearing agents we also build freight forwarding and customs clearing software, which can share data with your cargo platform.

Cargo Management Software: FAQs

Our typical ranges are ₦5M–₦8M for a booking and tracking web platform (8–10 weeks), ₦8M–₦15M for a full platform with warehouse intake, labels, manifests, branches and a customer portal (3–5 months), and ₦15M–₦20M+ for multi-branch builds with driver and agent apps (5–7 months). A fixed quote follows a free scoping call.

Yes. Rate tables can mix flat prices per barrel or box size for sea with weight bands and per-kilo rates for air, plus collection, packing and delivery fees, all set by you.

Yes, through the WhatsApp Business Platform, alongside SMS and a tracking page. Meta charges per delivered message, by market and message category; those fees are billed to you.

Yes. Your UK firm stays responsible for customer data. Sending it to a separate company outside the UK is a restricted transfer, and as Nigeria has no UK adequacy regulations you usually need a safeguard such as the IDTA or UK Addendum. Nigeria's NDPA also covers your recipients in Nigeria. Take advice from your lawyer.

Nigeria is UTC+1 all year. It shares London's clock during British Summer Time and is one hour ahead from late October to late March. It is five hours ahead of the US East Coast in the US summer and six in winter.

We don't promise a direct Customs integration: any system access is for the Nigeria Customs Service to authorise, not a software vendor. We export the manifests and documents your licensed clearing agent works from. The National Single Window plans to add Customs declarations in the first quarter of 2027.

Our prices and quotes are in naira. After the scoping call we send a fixed quote with milestones and agree the payment arrangements in writing before work starts.

Often, yes. Our code takeover service is a one-off ₦200,000–₦2,000,000, and we tell you honestly whether to fix or rebuild.

You do. You own the source code and the data, so you can move to another developer or bring the work in-house later.
