Your App Is Live. Who Is Keeping It Alive?

Shipping an app is the easy half. The hard half starts the day after launch, when real users hit it, Android and iOS keep shipping new versions, the stores keep changing their rules, and the server quietly runs out of disk at 2am on a Saturday.

App maintenance and support is the ongoing engineering that keeps a live product healthy: bug fixes, security patches, OS and store updates, monitoring, tested backups and small monthly changes. Musskart Technology Limited provides it in Nigeria as an SLA-backed monthly retainer from ₦75,000 per month — for apps we built and, just as often, for apps somebody else built and then abandoned.

If your developer has stopped answering messages, skip to the code takeover section.

What App Maintenance and Support Actually Covers

"Maintenance" is a vague word used to sell very different things. Here is exactly what sits inside a Musskart retainer, so you can measure any other quote against it.

Bug fixes and defect triage

A crash, a screen that will not load, an order that never reaches the dashboard. We reproduce it, fix the root cause rather than the symptom, and ship it — triaged by severity, so what costs you money is handled first.

OS and app-store updates

Both stores enforce minimum SDK targets, permission rules and privacy declarations. We rebuild against current SDKs, refresh signing keys and certificates before they expire, and push releases so your app is never blocked from updating.

Security and dependency patches

Your app sits on dozens of third-party packages and vulnerabilities are announced constantly. We track advisories for your stack, upgrade affected packages, patch the framework and rotate exposed keys.

Server and uptime monitoring

Uptime checks, error-rate alerts, disk and memory headroom, SSL expiry, database health and queue backlogs — so we know something has tripped before your customers call you.

Backups and recovery testing

Automated database and file backups stored off the production server, and periodically restored to prove they work. An untested backup is a rumour, not a safety net.

Small features and changes

A new bank to add, a field to capture, a report your accountant now wants, a new admin role. Retainers include monthly engineering hours for exactly this, so you are not raising a project every time the business shifts.

Why a Live App Decays If Nobody Touches It

The ground underneath your app moves constantly, so an untouched app gets worse every month even if not one line of its code changes.

Operating systems move on

New Android and iOS releases change permissions, background execution and storage access. Features that worked last year start failing silently on the newest phones — the ones your best customers are buying.

Stores enforce new policy

Play and the App Store raise minimum SDK targets and demand new data-safety disclosures. Miss a deadline and your listing can stop accepting updates, or be pulled entirely.

Certificates expire, APIs change, data grows

SSL and push certificates, API keys and signing credentials all expire, and one of them can take an app offline on an ordinary Tuesday. Gateways deprecate old endpoints. Tables that were fast at ten thousand rows crawl at two million.

"My App Developer Disappeared" — Code Takeover

One of the most common situations we are called into. A freelancer or small team builds the app, gets paid, then stops responding. An agency folds. Meanwhile you have a live product, paying users, and nobody who can change a line.

It is solvable in almost every case. The first step is an honest assessment of what you actually own.

Before spending anything, gather what you can find: source code, hosting logins, domain access, database credentials, store logins and any handover notes. If you have none of it, say so — we start from what exists.

How a Takeover Works, Step by Step

Every inherited codebase runs through the same five stages, with a decision point after stage one.

Step 1 — Code and infrastructure audit

We read the codebase, run it locally and map the system: architecture, database, integrations, hosting, dependency health and security exposure. You get a written report grading the code, listing urgent risks and estimating stabilisation cost — yours to keep whether or not you hire us.

Step 2 — Access recovery and clean handover

We inventory every account and credential, help you recover what is held in someone else's name, move the code into a repository you own and rotate every exposed secret. This alone prevents the same crisis twice.

Step 3 — Stabilisation

We fix what is actively hurting you: crashes, broken payments, security holes, failing builds. The goal is a system that is safe to touch, not a rewrite.

Step 4 — Documentation and targeted refactor

We write what the original developer never did: setup, environment variables, deployment steps, API notes and a plain-English map of the system. Where code is dangerous to work in we refactor it — only where it earns its cost.

Step 5 — Move onto an ongoing retainer

Once stable and documented, the app moves to a monthly plan below with a named engineer and an agreed SLA. Most takeovers get there in two to six weeks.

What the first two weeks typically look like

Days 1–2: audit kickoff and access collection. Days 3–5: audit report with a prioritised risk list and a fixed stabilisation quote. Week 2: credentials rotated, repository transferred into your ownership, urgent crashes fixed, monitoring and backups on. Want this run on your app? Send us the details.

Monthly Retainer Tiers and SLAs

Pricing is in Naira, per month, with no long lock-in. These are published starting points — the exact figure depends on how many apps you run, how complex the backend is, and how fast you need us to respond.

Essential Care

₦75,000 / month

For: one live app with steady traffic.

Uptime and error monitoring, automated backups with restore tests, security and dependency patches, bug fixes, minor content changes, monthly health report. SLA: next-business-day response, Monday to Friday.

Growth Support

₦150,000 / month

For: apps with real growth and a business depending on them.

Everything in Essential, plus OS compatibility and store release management, monthly hours for small features, performance tuning and a named engineer. SLA: four-hour response on critical issues in business hours.

Business-Critical

₦300,000 – ₦500,000 / month

For: revenue platforms where downtime costs money hourly.

Everything in Growth, plus a larger engineering allocation, priority triage, agreed out-of-hours and weekend cover, deeper security review and a scheduled review call. SLA: fastest tier, agreed in contract.

Ours is a response-time commitment: how quickly a human engineer who knows your system acknowledges the problem and starts work. No honest firm promises that software never breaks. What we promise is that when it does, you are not left messaging into silence — which, if your last developer vanished, is the part that matters.

For the full picture of what Musskart charges, see our pricing page. If your product is a conventional business site rather than an app, our website care plans start considerably lower and are the right fit instead.

Takeover and Refactor Project Pricing

One-off takeover and stabilisation is priced separately from the retainer, because effort depends on the state of the code. The range runs ₦200,000 to ₦2,000,000, with a fixed figure after the audit — never an open-ended hourly meter.

Occasionally the honest answer is that a rebuild costs less than the rescue. When the audit says so, we quote both options side by side.

What Is Included, and What Is Quoted Separately

Third-party costs — hosting, domains, store fees, SMS credits and gateway charges — are billed by those providers directly to you, in your own accounts. We never mark them up.

You own the source code. Everything we write belongs to you, sits in a repository under your account and comes with documentation. If you ever leave Musskart, you leave with a working, documented system.

Technologies We Maintain

Our senior engineers work across the stacks most common in Nigerian apps and custom platforms, so we can pick up an inherited codebase quickly.

Flutter React Native Native Android (Kotlin/Java) Native iOS (Swift) Laravel PHP Node.js React Vue Python MySQL PostgreSQL Firebase REST & GraphQL APIs Paystack Flutterwave AWS DigitalOcean cPanel & VPS CI/CD Pipelines

If your app runs on something not listed, ask anyway — we will give you a straight answer.

Who These Retainers Are Built For

Startups with a live product

You launched, users arrived, and you need reliable cover without carrying a full-time salary — a senior team on call for a fraction of one developer's monthly cost.

Businesses running internal software

An operations, inventory, HR or logistics system staff depend on daily. When it stops, work stops — so response time is the whole point.

Owners abandoned by a developer

You paid, the app exists, and the builder has gone silent. We audit, take over and stabilise — and put every account back in your own name.

Teams whose developer has left

Your in-house engineer resigned and the knowledge went with them. We absorb the codebase, document it and keep things running.

How to Get Started This Week

1. Message us on WhatsApp

Send the app name or link, the platform, what is broken, and whether you still hold the code and accounts. We reply on WhatsApp within minutes during working hours.

2. Free 20-minute assessment call

We talk through what you own, what is failing and how urgent it is. If a paid audit is not necessary, we say so.

3. Written proposal

The recommended tier, any takeover cost as a fixed figure, the SLA, and what falls inside versus outside scope — in writing, in Naira.

4. Onboarding and first month

Access handover, monitoring and backups switched on, urgent issues cleared, documentation started, named engineer assigned.

We work with businesses across Nigeria — Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Asaba and beyond. Maintenance is naturally remote, handled over WhatsApp, email and video calls, with our teams working from our Asaba headquarters and our Abuja office. Where a client needs on-site handover sessions, we travel, priced up front.

Frequently Asked Questions

Musskart runs three monthly tiers in Naira. Essential Care is ₦75,000 for a single live app: monitoring, backups, security patches and bug fixes, with a next-business-day response. Growth Support is ₦150,000, adding OS and store release updates, small change requests and a four-hour critical response. Business-Critical runs ₦300,000 to ₦500,000 with agreed out-of-hours cover. If someone else built your app, a one-off takeover of ₦200,000 to ₦2,000,000 usually comes first.

Yes — it is one of the most common calls we get. We audit whatever you hold: source code, repository access, Play Console and App Store accounts, hosting, domain and database credentials, then tell you honestly what is recoverable before you spend anything. Without the code we can often recover the running system from your server. If nothing usable survives, we say so and quote a rebuild instead.

It is a response-time commitment, not a promise that nothing ever breaks. Essential Care acknowledges issues by the next business day. Growth Support gives critical faults — app down, login broken, payments failing — a four-hour response in business hours. Business-Critical tightens that and adds out-of-hours cover. Every tier includes a named engineer, a shared ticket channel and a monthly report.

Yes. Most of our maintenance clients arrive with an app someone else wrote. Before quoting a retainer we run a paid code audit covering architecture, dependency health, security exposure and how risky the codebase is to change — and that report is yours either way. We support Flutter, React Native, native Android and iOS, Laravel, PHP, Node, React, Vue and Python.

Maintenance keeps what exists working: bug fixes, security patches, dependency updates, compatibility with new Android and iOS releases, store policy changes, monitoring and backups. A new feature adds capability the app never had — a new payment provider, a new user role, a whole new module. Small changes fit your retainer's monthly hours; anything larger gets a separate fixed-price quote.

Yes, but through a different plan. Ordinary business sites, WordPress installations and brochure pages are covered by our website care plans, which start lower because the work is lighter. The retainers here are for mobile apps, web applications and custom software — systems with users, logins, payments, servers and store releases. Not sure which? Message us on WhatsApp with a link.
