One-Time Build, You Own the Code

We reply on WhatsApp within minutes.

Software That Fits Your Warehouse, Not the Other Way Round

Most small third-party logistics providers start the same way. You win two or three clients, run their stock on spreadsheets, and it works until it suddenly does not. So you subscribe to an off-the-shelf platform. Pick and pack is fine. Then you find the billing module cannot price your rate card, the client portal carries somebody else's brand, a fourth client costs another per-client fee, and your biggest account's Monday report is still assembled by hand.

That is the gap this page is about. Musskart Technology Limited builds custom 3PL warehouse management systems for small 3PLs, e-commerce fulfilment houses and cross-border consolidators — a genuine multi-client WMS with a branded portal, built around your rate card, delivered as a one-time build you own outright instead of a subscription that grows every time your business does.

We are not a marketplace of freelancers. We are a registered Nigerian software company headquartered in Asaba, Delta State with an office in Abuja, and we have delivered more than 250 projects since 2020 with senior PHP and Laravel, Flutter, React Native and web engineers on staff. Our clients pay in USD, talk to us on WhatsApp, and keep the repository.

Why Generic Warehouse Software Fails Small 3PLs

A WMS built for a brand that owns its own stock has one owner, one rate structure and one set of eyes on the data. A 3PL has none of those. You hold other people's inventory under different commercial terms, and every one of those people wants to look at it. That difference is where generic software breaks down.

One tenant, many owners

Single-tenant software assumes the stock is yours. Bolt three clients onto it and you get prefixed SKUs, colour-coded spreadsheets and a standing risk of one customer seeing another's numbers.

Billing is an afterthought

Generic platforms bill you. They rarely bill for you. Storage by pallet-day, receiving by carton, pick fees by line, kitting surcharges — most cannot express that, so month-end becomes a spreadsheet exercise and revenue leaks.

You cannot put your name on it

Your client portal is your product. When it carries a vendor's logo, you are introducing your customers to your supplier and renting the relationship you worked hard to build.

The cost curve points the wrong way

Per-client fees, volume tiers, integration add-ons and implementation charges mean your software bill rises fastest exactly when you are winning. Growth should not be a penalty.

None of this makes the incumbents bad software. ShipHero and Extensiv are capable platforms and plenty of 3PLs run on them happily. It means that once your billing, branding or integrations stop fitting the box, the honest options are to change your business to suit the software, or build software that suits your business.

What We Build Into a 3PL WMS

Every build is scoped to the client, but a working fulfillment software stack for a small 3PL almost always includes the following — a menu we scope from, not a fixed package.

Multi-tenant architecture ASN and receiving Directed putaway Bin and zone locations Wave and batch picking Pack verification Carrier labels and tracking Mobile barcode scanning Storage and handling billing Branded client portal Shopify and WooCommerce Amazon integration Cycle counting Returns and RMA Kitting and bundles Lot, batch and expiry REST API and webhooks Role-based access

The Billing Engine: What Generic WMS Gets Wrong

Ask ten 3PL operators why they are shopping for new software and most get to billing. Warehouse software is written to move stock, not to monetise holding it — so the rate card that defines your entire commercial model ends up in a spreadsheet, reconstructed at month end by whoever has the patience. We build billing as a first-class part of the system, modelled on your actual contracts:

Storage charges

Per pallet, bin, shelf, cubic metre or unit. Charged daily, weekly or monthly on peak or average occupancy, with minimum commitments, free-storage periods and long-stay surcharges where your contract has them.

Receiving and handling charges

Per pallet, carton, line or unit received, with different rates for palletised versus floor-loaded containers, and a separate unloading charge where you price it that way.

Pick, pack and ship charges

A base order fee plus per-line and per-unit rates, tiered by monthly volume, with separate pricing for single-line, multi-line and pallet-out movements.

Surcharges and value-added services

Kitting, labelling, returns processing, packaging materials consumed, special handling and rush work. Each attaches to the job that triggered it, so it is captured rather than remembered.

Accrual, invoicing and export

Charges accrue as work happens, so at any point you can see what a client owes and what each client is worth. At period end the system produces a per-client invoice with a full activity breakdown, exports to CSV or PDF, and can push into your accounting tool.

The practical effect: nothing that happens in the warehouse leaves without a price attached, and nobody spends the first week of the month rebuilding invoices by hand.

The Client Portal Is Your Product

For most small 3PLs, the portal is the only part of the operation a customer touches daily. It is where they check stock before a promotion, chase an order for an angry buyer, and decide at renewal whether you are a professional partner or a warehouse with an email address. Putting a competitor's brand on that screen is a strange thing to do voluntarily.

The 3PL client portal software we build sits on your domain under your branding: live stock by SKU and location, inbound shipments with ASN status, order statuses with carrier tracking, returns, reports, invoices with a full activity breakdown, and the ability to raise an ASN or a manual order. Every screen is scoped to that customer's tenant.

It also removes work. The questions that eat a small 3PL's day — where is my stock, did it ship, what is this charge — get answered by a login instead of a phone call, which changes how many clients a small team can carry.

Own It vs Rent It: The Break-Even Maths

Here is the calculation every 3PL owner runs eventually, with published numbers rather than vague promises. ShipHero's 3PL plans run from roughly $499 to $2,145 per month by tier and volume. Extensiv sits around $599 per month, usually with per-client fees and an implementation charge on top. Our build is a one-time cost, plus hosting and an optional support retainer budgeted here at about $250 per month.

Option Year 1 3 years 5 years
ShipHero, entry tier (~$499/mo) $5,988 $17,964 $29,940
Extensiv (~$599/mo + per-client fees + implementation) $7,188+ $21,564+ $35,940+
ShipHero, upper tier (~$2,145/mo) $25,740 $77,220 $128,700
Musskart Core build ($15,000 + ~$250/mo) $18,000 $24,000 $30,000
Musskart Standard build ($25,000 + ~$250/mo) $28,000 $34,000 $40,000
Musskart Full build ($40,000 + ~$250/mo) $43,000 $49,000 $55,000

Subscription figures are vendor list prices and vary with volume, add-ons and negotiation. Use this as a framework for your own numbers, not a quote on anyone else's behalf.

Read honestly, the table says something more useful than building is always cheaper:

  • Against an upper-tier subscription, a $25,000 build breaks even in a little over a year and leaves you roughly $89,000 better off across five.
  • Against Extensiv at list, a $15,000 core build breaks even near year four — sooner once per-client fees and implementation are counted.
  • Against a $499 entry plan, the subscription is cheaper for years. If that is you and the platform does what you need, staying put is the rational choice, and we will say so.

Money is not the whole argument either. A build you own means no per-client fee when you sign your fifth or fiftieth customer, no volume tier that punishes a good quarter, billing that matches your contracts exactly, your brand on the portal, and an asset a buyer can value if you sell the business. Rented software is an operating cost forever; owned software is a cost once and an asset afterwards.

What a Custom 3PL WMS Costs

All prices are in USD, quoted as a fixed one-time build before work starts. You own the source code and repository at handover. No licence, no per-client fee, no seat charge.

Core

$15,000

8–10 weeks

Multi-client inventory separation, receiving and ASN, putaway with bin locations, pick, pack and ship workflows, users and roles, inventory reporting and an admin dashboard. The system that gets you off spreadsheets.

Standard

$25,000

12–14 weeks

Everything in Core, plus the branded client portal, the storage and handling billing engine with invoicing, mobile barcode scanning, returns handling and expanded reporting. The tier most small 3PLs choose.

Full

$40,000

16–20 weeks

Everything in Standard, plus carrier labels and rate shopping, Shopify, WooCommerce and Amazon integrations, cycle counting, kitting and bundles, lot and expiry tracking, a public REST API with webhooks, and analytics.

Beyond the build we offer an optional support and hosting retainer, typically around $250 per month for infrastructure, monitoring, backups and a defined support window. It is optional in the real sense — the code is yours, so you can host it yourself or hand it to any other team. Multi-warehouse operations, EDI, ERP connectors and unusual carrier integrations are scoped and quoted separately.

How the Build Runs

Warehouse software fails when it is designed away from the warehouse. Our process prevents that.

Week 0 — Discovery on your floor

We walk your process with you: how goods arrive, how they are stored, how an order becomes a parcel, and how you charge for it. We take your rate card apart line by line, because that is where the surprises hide.

Weeks 1–2 — Data model and screens

Multi-tenant data model, location hierarchy and role matrix agreed, with clickable screens for your busiest flows. Changing a screen now costs a conversation; changing it in week ten costs money.

Sprints — two weeks, one demo each

Core inventory and receiving first, then putaway and picking, then billing and the portal, then integrations. Every sprint ends with working software on a staging URL you can log into.

Pilot client in the warehouse

Before the full scope is finished, one real client runs through the system alongside your existing process. Real SKUs and orders surface edge cases no specification catches, while there is still budget to fix them.

Migration, training and handover

We migrate SKUs, locations, clients and open balances, train your staff, and hand over the repository, deployment docs and admin access. The code is yours from that day — not escrowed, not licensed. After go-live there is a defined hypercare window, then either a retainer or a clean goodbye. Both are fine with us.

Why Work With a Nigerian Engineering Team

Let us be direct, because you should know who you are hiring before you spend USD. Musskart Technology Limited is a registered Nigerian company at 93B Ibusa Road, Umuonaje, Asaba 320104, Delta State, with a second office in Abuja. We do not have a US, UK, Canadian or Australian office and will never pretend otherwise. Here is what we do have.

The value proposition is simple and honest: senior engineering at a fraction of what a Western agency charges for the same scope, from a registered company at an address you can look up, in a timezone that overlaps yours. That is the whole pitch.

Who This Is Built For

Small and startup 3PLs

Three to thirty clients, one or two warehouses, on spreadsheets or a platform that cannot price your rate card or carry your brand.

E-commerce fulfilment houses

High order volume, many Shopify and WooCommerce stores, and per-store billing that reflects the work actually done.

Cross-border consolidators

Consolidation, per-shipper visibility and storage billing across borders — where single-tenant software runs out of road fastest.

We work with 3PLs in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, the UAE and across Africa. Quotes are in USD and everything runs remotely. If you would rather buy engineers by the month than a fixed scope, see hiring a dedicated development team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our 3PL WMS builds start at 15,000 US dollars for a core system covering multi-client inventory, receiving, putaway, and pick, pack and ship. A standard build at 25,000 US dollars adds the branded client portal, barcode scanning on mobile and the storage and handling billing engine. A full build at 40,000 US dollars adds carrier label generation, Shopify, WooCommerce and Amazon integrations, cycle counting and a reporting suite. The price is one-time, quoted in USD before we start, and you own the source code outright when we hand it over.

It depends which plan you are on, and we would rather be straight with you than sell you a number. Against a ShipHero plan near the top of its roughly 499 to 2,145 US dollars a month range, a 25,000 US dollar build pays for itself in a little over a year. Against an entry plan near 499 US dollars a month, break-even on the raw subscription alone is closer to eight years. So a custom build makes clear financial sense once you are on a mid or upper tier, paying per-client fees or implementation costs, or hitting order-volume overages. It also makes sense at any tier when the platform simply cannot bill, report or brand itself the way your contracts require.

Every record in the system carries a client identifier and every query is scoped to it at the data layer rather than in the interface, so one client can never see another client's stock, orders or rates. Users belong to a client and a role, your warehouse staff work across all clients, and your customers only ever see their own tenant through the portal. We also separate physical stock by bin, zone or virtual location, so the same SKU belonging to two different clients is never commingled by accident and every movement is traceable to the client that owns it.

Yes, and this is usually the reason 3PLs outgrow generic warehouse software. We build the billing engine around your actual rate card: storage charged per pallet, per bin, per cubic metre or per unit on a daily, weekly or monthly cycle; receiving charged per pallet or per carton; pick and pack charged per order and per line; plus surcharges for special handling, returns, kitting and packaging materials. The system accrues charges as the work happens rather than asking someone to reconstruct them from spreadsheets at month end, and it produces a per-client invoice you can export or push into your accounting tool.

A core build typically takes eight to ten weeks, a standard build twelve to fourteen weeks, and a full build with carrier labels and marketplace integrations sixteen to twenty weeks. We work in two-week sprints with a working demo at the end of each one, so you see real software early instead of waiting months for a single reveal. Most 3PLs we work with put one pilot client live in the warehouse before the full scope is finished, which surfaces the awkward real-world edge cases while there is still budget and time to handle them properly.

We are a registered Nigerian company with our headquarters in Asaba, Delta State and an office in Abuja, and we state that plainly because you should know exactly who you are hiring. Our engineers are senior, work in native English, and sit in the UTC+1 timezone, which gives us a full working-day overlap with the UK, Europe and the Gulf, early cover for Australian mornings and live cover through US afternoons. What you get is senior engineering at a fraction of Western agency rates, daily contact on WhatsApp, and full ownership of the code and the repository at handover.
