Commission On Direct Bookings

We reply on WhatsApp within minutes. Send us your season, your average booking value and your current platform fee, and we will tell you the same day whether a custom build actually pays for itself in your case.

The Fee You Pay Forever Versus the System You Buy Once

If you run tours, activities, charters or an attraction, you already know the shape of the problem. Your booking platform is genuinely useful — it holds availability, takes the card, collects the waiver, prints the manifest — and it takes a slice of every single reservation you make, in high season and low, on repeat customers who came straight to your own website, forever. That slice is commonly around 6% per booking on the best-known hosted platforms, with an extra couple of percent layered on bookings that arrive through a connected marketplace. Competing products in the same category are usually quoted in the 6–8% band. Rates vary by contract, so the number that matters is the one on your own statement.

The uncomfortable part is that the fee scales with your success while the software does not change. Doubling your season doubles what you pay, even though nobody wrote a single new line of code for you. That is the trade you accept when you rent a booking engine. The alternative is to own one: a custom booking platform built around your actual operation, running on your own hosting, taking payment directly into your own Stripe or PayPal account, with no per-booking commission at all on the direct bookings you work so hard to win.

Musskart Technology Limited is a registered Nigerian software company that has delivered 250+ projects since 2020. We build booking, scheduling and marketplace systems for operators in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, the Gulf and across Africa — priced in US dollars, delivered remotely, with the source code transferred to you at the end.

The Commission Math, Done Honestly

This is not a marketing claim — it is arithmetic you can redo on the back of your own statement in two minutes. Take your annual bookings processed through the platform, multiply by your effective rate, and compare it with a one-time build. The table below uses a blended 6% and, for operators with meaningful marketplace volume, an 8% effective rate.

Annual bookings processed At ~6% At ~8% (with OTA share) Paid over 3 years at 6%
$150,000$9,000 / yr$12,000 / yr$27,000
$300,000$18,000 / yr$24,000 / yr$54,000
$500,000$30,000 / yr$40,000 / yr$90,000
$1,000,000$60,000 / yr$80,000 / yr$180,000

Illustrative arithmetic on the stated percentages, not a quote from any named vendor. Your real rate, and whether you absorb the fee or pass it to the guest, is in your own agreement — check it before you decide.

A $300,000-a-year operator paying around 6% is spending roughly $18,000 every year on booking software. A Growth-tier custom build is about $16,000 once, plus hosting and a support retainer that together typically land in the low thousands per year. In that example the build is paid back inside the first season, and every season after that the saving compounds. At $500,000 or a million a year the case stops being close.

Be fair to the other side of the ledger, though. Renting is the right answer for a brand-new operator with one kayak and forty bookings a season, because 6% of very little is very little and a hosted platform costs nothing up front. The crossover point in practice sits somewhere around $120,000–$200,000 of annual bookings, or earlier if you have operational rules the hosted product simply refuses to model. If you are below that line, we will tell you so on the WhatsApp call rather than sell you a build you do not need yet.

Who We Build This For

The mechanics of selling a timed, capacity-limited experience are the same whether you are launching a boat or handing over a helmet. We build for:

Tour operators

Day tours, walking tours, food and wine tours, multi-day itineraries, guided excursions and city sightseeing — with per-departure capacity, guide assignment and pickup points.

Boat, yacht and fishing charters

Whole-vessel and per-seat charters, half-day and full-day slots, skipper allocation, weather cancellations, deposits and balance payments, and rules that stop two parties booking the same hull.

Dive, kayak, surf and watersports outfitters

Certification checks, equipment and tank allocation, instructor ratios, medical questionnaires and liability waivers signed before anyone reaches the dock.

ATV, buggy, jet-ski and adventure rentals

Unit-level inventory, turnaround buffers between rides, age and licence rules, damage deposits and add-ons like helmets, GoPros or extra fuel.

Attractions and experiences

Timed-entry tickets, museums, escape rooms, zip lines, aquariums and seasonal events — with QR admission, capacity per time slot and peak or off-peak pricing.

Multi-location and franchise operators

Several bases, several currencies, several languages, one back office — with per-location staff permissions and consolidated reporting across the whole group.

What Goes Into the Build

Everything below is standard scope for us. The question in your scoping call is not whether we can build these, but which ones your operation actually needs on day one.

Laravel / PHP React & Next.js Flutter React Native Stripe PayPal MySQL / PostgreSQL Twilio SMS Google & Apple Wallet passes REST & webhook APIs AWS / DigitalOcean

What It Costs — Three Tiers in US Dollars

These are real starting figures, not a "contact us for pricing" wall. A fixed price is confirmed after a scoping call, because two charter companies with the same boat count can have completely different rules.

Hosting and ongoing support are quoted separately and honestly — a typical operator runs on a few hundred dollars a year of cloud hosting plus an optional maintenance retainer. There is no per-booking charge from us at any tier, at any volume, ever. For the wider Musskart rate card and package options, see our pricing page.

How the Build Runs, Week by Week

No black box. You see working software every two weeks and you can stop, change direction or add scope at any sprint boundary.

Week 0 — Discovery call and scope

A 45-minute call on WhatsApp, Zoom or Google Meet. We map your products, capacity rules, seasons, payment flow, waiver requirements and the things your current platform will not let you do. You leave with a written scope and a fixed price, not an estimate that drifts.

Weeks 1–2 — Booking flow and design

Clickable screens for the customer journey and the staff dashboard, matched to your brand. We prove the checkout path converts before anything is engineered behind it.

Weeks 3–5 — Availability engine and payments

The core build: capacity, slots, resource allocation, overbooking protection, Stripe or PayPal connected to your own merchant account, waivers, confirmations and reminders. Sprint demo at the end of each fortnight.

Weeks 6–8 — Operations layer

QR check-in, manifests, rostering, gift cards, promo codes, reporting, and any channel connections in scope. Your staff start testing with real products and real card transactions in test mode.

Launch week — Migration and parallel run

Existing customers, gift-card balances and forward bookings are migrated across. We run the new system alongside the old one for a week or two so nothing is lost, then switch the public site over — ideally during your quiet season.

After launch — Handover and support

Source code delivered to your repository with documentation and deployment scripts, staff training recorded for future hires, and 30 to 90 days of included support depending on tier. Optional retainer after that; no lock-in either way.

See It Working Before You Commit

We would rather show you than describe it. Ask for a walkthrough of a live booking flow and we will screen-share a working availability calendar, take a test card through Stripe checkout, sign a waiver, issue a QR ticket and scan it on the check-in screen — end to end, in about twenty minutes, with a senior engineer rather than a salesperson on the call.

Book a 20-minute live demo

Bring your trickiest scheduling rule — the two-boat conflict, the instructor ratio, the tide-dependent departure, the group deposit — and we will show you on the call how it would be modelled. No slide deck.

Working With a Nigerian Engineering Team

We will be direct about who we are, because you should know before you send a deposit. Musskart Technology Limited is a registered Nigerian company. Our head office is at 93B Ibusa Road, Umuonaje, Asaba, Delta State, and we have a second office in Abuja. We do not have an office in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Caribbean or the Gulf, and we will never pretend otherwise. What we offer is this:

Payment is milestone-based in US dollars, typically a deposit to start and the balance across sprint milestones, so neither side is exposed. Contracts, NDAs and IP assignment are signed before a line of code is written.

Related Booking & Scheduling Work

Booking engines are a core Musskart capability rather than a one-off experiment. Three related builds worth reading if you want to see how we approach scheduling problems in other verticals:

Appointment and booking systems

The same availability-and-capacity engine, applied to salons, clinics and gyms — staff calendars, slot rules, deposits and reminders. A good look at how we model schedules. See the booking and appointment build →

Hotel and property reservation systems

Inventory, rate plans, channel connections and front-desk operations — the closest cousin to charter and multi-day tour inventory. See the hotel booking system build →

Ticketing and QR admission

Timed entry, QR scanning at the gate and reseller codes, built for events and attractions. See the ticketing platform build →

Frequently Asked Questions

The functionality overlaps heavily — availability, capacity, waivers, card payments, manifests, check-in. The commercial model is what differs. Hosted platforms are usually priced as a percentage of every booking you take, commonly around 6% with an extra slice on bookings that arrive through a connected OTA, and that percentage never stops. A custom platform is a one-time build cost plus hosting and support, so your cost per booking falls every year your volume grows. You also control the roadmap: if you need a two-boat capacity rule or a specific waiver flow, we build it rather than waiting for a vendor to add it.

We build in three tiers, priced in US dollars. Essential is about $10,000 and covers a single-operator booking site with availability, capacity, Stripe or PayPal checkout, digital waivers, email confirmations and a staff dashboard. Growth is about $16,000 and adds QR check-in, gift cards and vouchers, resource and equipment allocation, multi-language, promo codes and reporting. Complete is about $25,000 and adds OTA channel sync, a reseller and agent portal, a native mobile app for guides, multi-location and a public API. Final pricing depends on your rules, integrations and how much data has to migrate.

An Essential build typically runs six to eight weeks from signed scope to live bookings. Growth is usually nine to twelve weeks and Complete twelve to sixteen weeks, mostly because channel sync and reseller portals need real testing against live inventory. We work in two-week sprints with a demo at the end of each one, so you see the availability engine and the checkout working long before launch. Most operators time the switchover for their off-season and run both systems in parallel for a couple of weeks.

Yes, and we treat it as optional rather than mandatory. Most operators want their own direct-booking site to carry the majority of sales at zero commission, while still keeping OTA distribution for reach. We can build channel connections so availability pushes out and bookings pull back into one manifest, using each marketplace's partner API or a channel manager you already pay for. You still owe the OTA its own commission on those bookings — nobody can remove that — but you stop paying a second software fee on top of it.

Yes. Full ownership of the source code transfers to you on final payment, delivered to your own Git repository with the deployment scripts and documentation. The database runs on infrastructure in your name, so your customer list, booking history and waiver records belong to you and can be exported at any time in standard formats. There is no lock-in clause and no data hostage situation: if you ever want to move to another developer or host, everything needed to do that is already in your hands.

It works the way remote software delivery normally works. Musskart Technology Limited is a registered Nigerian company with its head office in Asaba and a second office in Abuja, and our engineers are native English speakers. We sit on UTC+1, which gives a full working overlap with the UK, Europe, the Gulf and Africa, reaches Australian operators in their morning and US operators in their afternoon. Calls happen on WhatsApp, Zoom or Google Meet, code lands in your repository, and you get senior engineering at a fraction of typical Western agency rates. We do not have an office in your country and we will never claim otherwise.
